As far as in town attractions go we would recommend the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies and the Chair lift that leaves the main Gatlinburg Parkway and rises almost 100 stories and offers spectacular views of the city below and the surrounding mountains it also offers a great opportunity for unforgettable photos Also originating from the Gatlinburg parkway is the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tram which rises in altitude over 2000 feet and almost 3 miles in distance up Ski Mountain. When you reach the top you will find an indoor ice skating rink, arcades, go carts, ski slopes and snow boarding, water rides a live Black Bear habitat and so much more Many Ober attractions are seasonal in nature so be sure to check and see which attraction are open prior to your stay. Also nearby is white water rafting, tubing, horseback riding and ATV rentals to explore those mountain trails. Gatlinburg is one of the most visited travel destinations in the state of TN. Within its confines are numerous stage shows and attractions and it also rest next to the most frequented National park in the United States -the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with 9 million plus visitors per annum. Perched above Gatlinburg is the Ober Gatlinburg amusement park and ski and snow board park. This is the only ski area with chair lifts in the state of TN, there are 8 separate ski courses/trails, the longest is close to 1 mile in distance and has 3 chair lifts. Travel up to the slopes is along regular paved roads and are open to travel nearly year round and an aerial tram that climbs upward over 2 1/2 miles up Ski Mountain and the tram can be accessed from the Gatlinburg parkway. So even if it is snowing there is always a way to the ski slopes. The Gatlinburg Trolley shuttles tourist by the 100's to various key destinations and attractions throughout the city of Gatlinburg .
